Day 8: Stop Comparing Yourself
    Written by Anhayla Stanley

It’s so easy to compare yourself to someone else…especially in today’s world.

Ten minutes on social media could have you knee deep in someone else’s life, endlessly scrolling through their timeline questioning where you are in your life.

    You are not alone.

We live in a world filled with comparison that sometimes goes unnoticed. We’re taught early that only one person can win in the games we love. Only one person can be top of the class. There is always a fan favorite. Someone always has to be the best… This is why it’s so easy to constantly compare ourselves.

There are some who will say comparison is a good thing because it keeps you motivated. While that may be true for some…it isn’t for most.

There is a difference between comparing yourself to someone and appreciating someone’s story. Appreciation helps you recognize the full worth of someone without the need to devalue yourself in the process.

When you try to compare your purpose, your beauty or your success to someone else’s— comparison steals all joy.

Comparison requires you to measure yourself based on someone else’s scale. This often leads to envy, regret and adds little value.

When we compare our lives to others we start to subconsciously or consciously mimic others and copy what they are doing. As a result, we miss out on what God truly has for us.

Perhaps God has you on another path for a reason. Maybe your story is suppose to be different so you can reach more people.

There is a reason you are born into a single body with a single mind.

Focus on YOUR journey and YOUR story that is currently being written. You are unique and beyond comparison. Be who you are…I promise it will worth it.

You may not be where you want to be right now but don't rush the process — don’t try to switch your life out for someone else’s. God has a plan for you.

If you have to…shield yourself and stop scrolling on social media for a while. Unfollow anyone who makes you feel less or depressed. Spend time thinking about your purpose and brainstorm your next steps. Do what you have to so you can see the beauty in who YOU are.
