Day 15 - Creating A Spiritual Routine
    Written by Anhayla Stanley

Having a spiritual routine is so important. This isn't your daily “to do” list, these are the things that you do daily to keep yourself grounded and in peace.

Some people thrive with schedules while other people feel captive from the monotony of doing the same things over and over. I'm one of the latter. In the past, anything with a schedule or routine would immediately turn me off. Perhaps its the Gemini in me, the duality…but I would always start off good with a routine and then eventually I would lose my consistency. Mainly because I was doing too much.

Whenever I was trying to “work” on myself in the past, I would always create these extreme routines to keep myself focused. They were so strict it would seem like punishment. I’ve learned that when I'm trying to grow it’s best to do work on myself in love instead of threatening myself to change. If something seems like punishment, then perhaps that's not something I need to be doing.

Now, when I add things to my spiritual routine I make it much more simple. Here are three steps that you can use when deciding your own daily spiritual routine.

    1)  Choose a positive action that you would like to engage in.

Pick something positive that you don't have to cut corners to complete. Choose something that will make you feel better and advance you to your spiritual goals. It doesn't have to be a complex task. It could be something simple that you already do.

    2)  Check that it’s in your capacity.

Check in with your capacity so you don’t get stuck in a spiral. Make it nice and easy...choose something that works for you. Don’t set the bar too high and choose something that's too complex or hard to complete daily. Choose something you're passionate about so you'll have the drive to actually do it.  Be specific and don't be vague…this way your mind wont be able to talk you out of doing it because of confusion or overthinking.

    3)  Follow through and complete.

This may be the hardest step because our days are filled with so many distractions. However, there is a great reward for this step. When we follow through and actually DO what we said we would do, we build self confidence. It’s a different kind of confidence because it isn't based on worldly pursuits or accomplishing random tasks. This confidence is built when you show up daily for yourself and prove that YOU can trust yourself.

These steps can help you put together a spiritual routine that works for you. You don’t have to wake up at 4am every morning and pray if you don't want to. You don't have to do Yoga or meditate for hours if you don't want to. Do what calls to you…what draws you in. Pick a routine that feels like home.

What have you been wanting to do but you keep putting it off? What activity makes you feel alive and motivated to be the best version of yourself? What could bring you closer to God? What daily activity would help your day start off better? Is there some activity that could make you feel more internally balanced?

    Consider these questions.

Create a daily spiritual routine that makes you feel good about yourself. Make your peace a priority and do things that help you spiritually thrive. This journey is personal so make it personal.
