Day 12: Be Present with Change

    The mind is a time machine.  

    With barely any effort, we can teleport through time and space to memories passed and futures imagined.  No one would endorse making a home in either the past or the future.  

    Ruminating over regrets can leave you feeling stuck and obsessing over the future feeds anxiety.  But our ability to time-hop into past and future versions of ourselves is our superpower.  We grow when we go back to uncover the root of patterns and habits we should break.  And imagining better days can pull us through when life is hard.  

    But, again, there’s no home for us in the past or future.  

    Somewhere between memory and imagination is a precarious present.  That is where we live.  But where is that?  “Be present” is universally prescribed to cure dissonance and disappointment.  But, if we’re being honest, “the present” is hard to nail down.  Time is continuous.  The moment you get a handle on your present, it’s the past.  

    And the same could be said of ourselves.  Just like we’re told to be present, we’re also encouraged to “be yourself.”  As if we aren’t constantly evolving...as if we don’t change with each passing moment.  

    We can be frustrated by this constant evolution or we can embrace it as another superpower.  

    Time cannot be contained and neither can you.  This is your freedom.  This moment, the present, is a wild west.  When you are open to exploring where you are and who you are right now, you are placing yourself in the flow of time.  

    This is not controlled stiltedness.  This is active growth; being, in the deepest sense.  Accepting your days as they arrive and showing up as who you continue to become. Honoring this truth that we may not trust when life feels stagnant. Everything changes.  Even the present.  And especially you.
