Day 10: Be Careful What You Think
Written by A’ngelique Tyree "The Broken Heel"

This morning when I woke up I thought, “What am I going to wear today?” “What time do I need to move my car?” “I wonder how my sisters are doing?” “Ugh my phone bill is due today!” “Wow, it’s crazy what’s going on right now…”

All of these thoughts happened under 30 seconds.

The average person has 60,000 thoughts a day. There’s something that we are constantly thinking about, worrying about, praying about to the point where we don’t even what in the world we even want anymore. Then, we have the audacity to get mad when we don’t receive that new car we prayed for or that promotion we hoped to get.

Last night, my friend Nikki and I went to see “Son of God” (which is highly recommended to see btw) and we were amazed at how easy it was for Jesus to touch a man’s ear and it was healed – or to tell a crippled man to “rise” and this guy who hasn’t walked in YEARS just stands up and starts walking again just like that.

The only reason we don’t change water into wine or heal cancer with one touch is because our thoughts are scattered all over the place.

Instead of being in tune with one thing, our thoughts are running a million miles per hour constantly thinking about everything in sight and in our minds. Think about how in the few hours you’ve been awake you thought about what you were going to eat or why your co-worker is bothering you so much or why you didn’t hear back from that job you interviewed for 2 weeks ago.

We are constantly worrying about sooooo many things that we don’t take the time to focus on one thing at a time and pray for that thing into existence.

On one hand, we pray for things to work out, but on the other, we worry they won’t. At the same time we imagine a positive outcome, we secretly think optimism is for the birds. We want to be committed to a relationship with so-and-so, but what if he leaves? We want to make money, but we don’t want to do that particular job because it’s not glamorous enough.

We are so scattered brained, that our requests are literally bouncing off walls. Go this way. No, wait; go that way. If you’ve ever seen the movie “Flubber”, all of our requests are knocking around like a “Flubber” in a tight space. It’s not that God isn’t answering our prayers. It’s just that we’re praying for too many things with no clear sight of what we TRULY want.

Sure, you prayed for peace of mind today, but you also spent 1,200 thoughts obsessing about that damned co-worker who stole your website idea. Yes, you made the intention to “think and grow rich,” but you also devoted 500 thoughts to worrying about your overdue rent payment.

When you understand prayer for what it really is, it’s easier to understand why that one-time plea to God to help you out doesn’t always pan out.

The only reason Jesus could walk on water was because 100 percent of his thoughts (prayers) believed he could. He had overcome the world’s thought system that says “only an idiot would be stupid enough to step out of the boat.” There was not one doubt — not a single thought (prayer) in his consciousness that didn’t fully believe it.

Today, train your brain to focus on ONE thing that your heart desires, set a deadline for it, and believe that you will receive it. If that means meditating in the bathroom for 5 minutes every hour so be it! You will be surprised of the endless possibilities and blessing you will start receiving by clearing your thoughts and opening up more space in your brain to focus on the 1 or 2 things you want at a time, as opposed to the million things you’re constantly seeking.
